Adagio for String Quartet on December 20

A few weeks ago in New Jersey, when I presented my lecture about the interdisciplinary nature of creativity to a group of school children, I was asked which of my compositions is my favorite. A tough question to answer! But I ultimately chose my Adagio for String Quartet.

And so I am delighted that the New York Composers Circle will be presenting this work on December 20 at 8pm. The venue is the Saint Peter’s Church at Citigroup Center, 54th Street and Lexington Avenue. One of the NYCC’s honorary members, Dinu Ghezzo, will be celebrated as his 70th birthday arrives, and there will also be a composition by no less than Elliott Carter on the bill. Other composers on the concert include Jacob E. Goodman, Martin Halpern, Eugene McBride, and Gayther Myers.

And a reception will follow. The suggested donation is $20 and as always the concert promises to be a great one. More information can be found by clicking the flier or by clicking here.

“A Poe Fantasia” to premiere Feb 2, 2010

In an upcoming recital, Soprano Sofia Dimitrova will premiere a new song cycle of mine, “A Poe Fantasia,” based on poems of Edgar Allan Poe. The concert will be Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at 8pm and takes place at Saint Peter’s Church in the Citigroup Building, Lexington Avenue and 54th Street. Sofia will be joined by accompanist Catherine Miller, and her sister, violinist Stanichka Dimitrova. Pieces on the evening include compositions by 2002 Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Moravec, Gy√∂rgy Kurt√°g, David Tcimpidis, and Evan Lewis. The suggested donation is $10. Two Rilke Songs on Dec 13

Quite unexpectedly, an opening has presented itself in the first New York Composers Circle concert of the 2007-08 concert season, and my Two Rilke Songs will be presented again.

The venue is the gorgeous Engleman Recital Hall at Baruch College, 55 Lexington Avenue at 25th Street. The concert is this Thursday, December 13, and starts at 8pm. There is a suggested donation of $15.

Soprano Sofia Dimitrova and violinist Stani Dimitrova are the superb sisters who interpret this piece, joined by Catherine Miller on piano.

Circle Variation (Fourth) Premiered

On June 6, 2006, 8pm, Circle Variations (Fourth) was premiered in a concert at Saint Peter’s Church at the Citigroup Center, Lexington Avenue and 54th Street. The concert was presented by The New York Composers Circle. The score is available as a free download here. Circle Variations (Fourth) is a short piece that formed the basis of a larger composition, Spirals.
