“A Night to Remember” — a review of the September 20, 2011 New York Composers Circle concert at Bargemusic — was published in the online magazine SoundWordSight. The review was written by the music critic David Abrams.

He writes:

PUBLIQuartet gave Richard Russell’s “Adagio for String Quartet” a soft caressing tenderness and great charm. PUBLIQuartet’s interpretation of this piece showed why it is one of the most popular contemporary works for string quartet.

Although my piece only has a brief mention, the review of the concert overall is very positive, and I am very glad to have been a part of it. A group photo was taken after the concert, but I must have been in the restroom!

“Adagio for String Quartet” at Bargemusic, Sep. 20

My Adagio for String Quartet will be performed at Bargemusic on Thursday, Sep. 20 at 8pm. The performers are the superb young string ensemble, PUBLIQuartet — more information about them can be found at their website.

The concert is being presented by the New York Composers Circle. Other composers on the bill are Max Giteck Duykers, Peri Mauer, Nataliya Medvedovskaya, and Richard Brooks.

I’m delighted to be making my composition debut at Bargemusic, which over the last few years has become a significant performance venue in New York. The concert made the listings of the New York Times, available to read by clicking here.

Emcee at NYCC Concert

I was the master of ceremonies at the recent April 5 2009 concert presented by the New York Composers Circle. What a successful afternoon of music and performances! There was new music by Roger Blanc, Richard Brooks, Victor Frost, Don Hagar, Carl Kanter, Eugene McBride, Miki Nakanishi, William Vollinger.

Superb performances were offered up by SWEET PLANTAIN: Romulo Benavides, Eddie Venegas, violins, Orlando Wells, viola, David Gotay, cello, with David Holtzman, piano, Michael Laderman, flute, Nataliya Medvedovskaya, piano, Christopher Oldfather, piano, Mark Snyder, oboe, Cesar Vuksic, piano, Rozanna Weinberger, viola
