Spi­rals had its ori­gins in the Cir­cle Vari­a­tions theme of composer/educator Anne Far­ber. Com­posers of the New York Com­posers Cir­cle were asked to write a vari­a­tion. Feel­ing encour­aged by the result, I decided to expand my vari­a­tion into a full-fledged trio.

I am indebted to NYCC founder Jacob Good­man, who sug­gested the title of the piece.
