premiere performance with Emily Clare Thompson-Schweer, soprano

Edgar Allan Poe’s poem Eldorado set for high voice and piano trio. It was presented by In Mid Air Productions in its premiere performance, and was sung by soprano Emily Clare Thompson-Schweer, but is suitable for tenor as well.

In performance, the piece should have a bouncy and almost jocular start, to better contrast with the shifting moods of the following stanzas. The final section (Ride, boldly ride!) is a driving, emphatic march which leads to a sudden quiet as the knighted hero passes on.

A great way to support new music is to perform the music you find here.
