I have always conÂsidÂered Poe a chalÂlenge to set musiÂcally; his texts are full of rhythm and meter, and I think a comÂposer is foolÂhardy to add anyÂthing to Poe’s rich, musiÂcal lanÂguage. Still, I was encourÂaged to look at Poe again by a good, trusted friend, and I disÂcovÂered two lesser known poems that I really enjoyed: “To the River” and “Alone.” One of my favorite poems of Poe is “A Dream Within a Dream” and I conÂsidÂered breakÂing up its two stanÂzas into two moveÂments. Once I had thought of this idea, the colÂlecÂtion came together.
These songs are very lyriÂcal and have difÂferÂent shiftÂing moods within the songs.
A great way to supÂport new music is to perÂform the music you find here.
