First Question

Sometimes, when I start a new piece, within the first few measures or so, I’ll stop and ask myself, “What do I want out of this piece?”

And what I mean is: what do I want to leave my audience with? Do I want to leave them happy, sad, excited, what?

This might help you get your composing pencil moving.
